Parents often turn to Tylenol when a child spikes a fever or can’t sleep from pain — a practice backed by decades of medical research. Yet President Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. have recently cast doubt, claiming acetaminophen causes autism, despite little credible evidence. Pediatricians and researchers stress the opposite: Tylenol, when used correctly, remains one of the safest options for children and pregnant women. The real danger, experts warn, lies not in the medicine but in the confusion stirred by misinformation. Tanya Lewis with Scientific American has the full story.
No. North Dakota’s voter turnout may not always shine, but it isn’t scraping the bottom, either. And recent online discussions suggesting we’re bringing up the bottom among the 50 states is not a reflection of the true information. Sabrina Halvorson with North Dakota News Cooperative has the full story that sets the records straight and gives us factual foundation to discuss voter engagement.
As fall sports seasons near their finish, one area athlete has already made her mark on the state stage. Des Lacs-Burlington junior Laila Christianson captured her second straight Class B girls golf championship this week, turning in a steady, composed performance at Pheasant Country Golf Course. With a two-round score of 3-under 141, she pulled away from the field and cemented herself as a rising force in North Dakota golf. Get the full tournament report including team results from Inforum.
An investigation into explicit images shared on Snapchat has reached Fargo’s Davies High School, where state agents seized dozens of student cellphones under new search warrants. North Dakota Attorney General Drew Wrigley says many victims have been identified, some forced to change schools after harassment. The images include both real and AI-generated content, raising alarm over privacy and exploitation. While no arrests have been made, Wrigley made clear: creating or spreading such material isn’t a prank — it’s a crime, and charges are expected. Tasha Carvell with Grand Forks Herald has the full story.
Your morning cup of coffee carries a bigger story than most of us realize. While demand stays strong, the future of coffee is under strain from climate change, rising costs, and a dwindling farm workforce. Growers in Brazil, Ethiopia, and beyond are already feeling the squeeze as prime coffee land shrinks and younger generations walk away from the fields. Arabica still dominates, but researchers are testing heat-tolerant varieties — and even exploring synthetic brews. Coffee isn’t disappearing, but it may not taste the same tomorrow. James Doubek with NPR has the full story.
On This Day
On this day in 1908, Henry Ford and personal transportation down to a “t”. In 1961, the establishing of the DIA put the intelligence in national defense, and in 1989, Denmark led the world in recognizing a new human right. One hundred years ago in Minot, we were measuring the full cost of out-migration, high-value cargo was rolling through town, the local news was doing the right thing when it came to local advertising, but no one was giving them credit, and snow was just across the border.
On this day in 1908, Henry Ford introduced the Model T automobile, revolutionizing transportation by making cars affordable for the average American and significantly impacting industrial manufacturing with the development of assembly line production.
On this day in 1961, the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) was established, consolidating military intelligence efforts across the branches of the armed services and enhancing the United States’ ability to collect and analyze defense-related information.
On this day in 1989, Denmark became the first country in the world to legally recognize same-sex unions with the enactment of registered partnerships, paving the way for future advancements in LGBTQ+ rights globally.

North Dakota’s loss of population since 1920—10,094 inhabitants, or 2,500 families—is an economic loss to the businesses of the state of more than $6,250,000 annually.
Why we published it:
We see lots of measures of economic activity, but we haven’t seen anyone measure this in quite some time. What is the economic worth of a person living in our state? What does it cost when we lose them? What does it cost when we educate them, bring them up with our values, and then send them to work and deliver for some other place? Perhaps our current economic measures tell us important information, but the don’t tell the story to the public as clearly and simply as this ad did.
We had a chance today to earn five dollars by resorting to a Chicago ready-to-wear Manufacturing establishment, canvassing agent in this city and county. We have plenty of like offers every month, but they have never appealed to us because we do not believe it is for the best interest of our community to have a lot of these canvassers in competition with our local merchants. On the other hand, how many others turn down money or other considerations because it will interfere with or injure the local newspaper? As a general rule the local newspaper may boost and praise people and their causes for 51 issues of the year yet if on the 52nd issue the mildest criticism or the slightest difference of opinion is indulged in, the good words and works of the rest of the year are forgotten and the newspaper given a swift kick. It surely takes a double dyed optimist to run a newspaper in a small town.
Why we published it:
On this… very little has changed in the last 100 years.
A solid car load of silk from Japan consisting of 18 car loads, valued at $8,000,000.00, passed thru Minot Sunday, enroute from Seattle to St. Paul. The train was pulled the entire distance, 1813 miles over the Great Northern railway with the same engine, No. 2517, one of the new type oil burners.
Why we published it:
They don’t show it by appearance, but the trains that pass through Minot are vital and valuable cogs in our country’s economic machine. The $8,000,000 in 1925 would equate to $150,000,0000 today.
"Beggar on Horseback"
Why we published it:
From when local media was the place to discover what was playing!
The Soo trains from Saskatchewan are carrying hundreds of harvest hands, bound for their homes in the south. A heavy snow fell in southern Saskatchewan Monday. At Gravelburg, west of Weyburn, the snow is so deep that autos cannot run and wagons and buggies are used for cross country travel. It is certain the snow will leave soon and that Indian summer will yet be enjoyed. Most of the threshing has been completed in Saskatchewan, about a week being required to complete the work.
Why we published it:
We’ve reached that time of the year… where it may come at any time. We only need the stories from the past to confirm the dreaded future 😉
On the Paradox of Life Well Lived!
“I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day.”
— E.B. White, Essay in The New York Times, 1949
