TED Talk, How Public Spaces Make Cities Work

What does it take to create great public spaces?

Minot’s in the midst of a downtown renaissance, and one of the keystone projects in that vision is the NDR-associated downtown gathering space. But what will that space look like and how will it live?

These are questions that remain to be answered, but if we take in the experience of others, we may be able to improve our odds of success. And we can be certain a great finished product will come together in our execution of all the little details.

Check out this TED Talk from Amanda Burden; she was the City Planner for New York City under Michael Bloomberg’s administration. Whether we like it or not, it’s hard to call New York anything about one of the most successful cities on the planet. If we’re planning to be great, maybe we should attempt to learn from their success. The video below is one such opportunity.
