MINOT, ND- The Sabre Dogs clinched the second spot in the playoffs after defeating the Pierre Trappers 7-0 Friday night.
It has been a long, hard-fought regular season for the Sabre Dogs, but all that hard work has finally paid off with their second straight playoff appearance. From beginning to end, it was the Sabre Dogs’ night. Nathaniel Brezner-Mendoza pitched phenomenally. In his seven innings of work, he gave up just two hits and four walks with seven strikeouts and no earned runs. Cory Smith had his best outing of the year to date as he went six up, six down in the remaining two innings with one strikeout.
It looked to be a pitcher’s duel with no score going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Sabre Dogs turned the tide of the game starting with two runs coming from an RBI single from Jase Edwards, and Justin Henle stealing home. They continued to lay it on thick with five more runs in the sixth. Wilson Roubion got it started with an RBI double, this was then followed up by RBI singles from Justin Henle and Edwards, and finished with a two-RBI single from Crews Taylor.
The Sabre Dogs will go for the series win Saturday night with the first pitch being at 7:05 p.m.
