MINOT, ND- After a 95-minute delay, the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs and Pierre Trappers played in a crucial Lewis Division game with playoff implications, and the Dogs delivered the goods. Led by Minot-native Carson Tonini, the Sabre Dogs were able to get the win with the final score of 9-5.
Tonini was incredible in his Sabre Dogs debut. He went for six innings and gave up two hits and two walks; not to mention he didn’t give up any runs and he got a season-high eleven strikeouts. The bullpen didn’t get off to the best start after allowing five runs in the seventh which tied the game at 5-5, but they were able to recover. Chase Grillo faced six batters and got five strikeouts, and Caden Kaelber was able to get the save with a K of his own.
The offense shined bright with five Sabre Dog hitters with multi-hit days. They were led by Crews Taylor who hit his tenth home run of the season. He finished 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and two doubles. Luke Quick also had a three-hit performance with a run and a stolen base. The Sabre Dogs will get a chance to clinch the second playoff spot Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
