BRANDON, MB- The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs won both games against the Wheat City Whiskey Jacks in their doubleheader on Monday afternoon.
The Sabre Dogs won the first game with a final score of 6-3. The hitting gave them the lead early and they never let go. Marcello Terrazas had a nice day on the mound with six innings of work allowing one walk, seven hits, and two earned runs. Chase Grillo finished off the game with a perfect inning with one strikeout and no walks, hits, or runs.
There were a few notable performances at the plate for the Sabre Dogs during the first game. Chauncey Callier led the way with three hits and two RBI which both led the team. Mason Dinesen went 2-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases, and Luke Quick went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
The Sabre Dogs started the second game with a 9-1 lead after the top of the fourth. The Whiskey Jacks didn’t give up and fought all the way back with solid hitting and relief pitching, but the Sabre Dogs got the win to earn their seventh dub in-a-row.
Everyone took part on the base paths, and all but two players didn’t get a hit. Wilson Roubion led the Sabre Dogs with a perfect day going 4-for-4 with four singles, a run, and an RBI. Nick Mistone had a nice day finishing 3-for-4 with three singles, two RBI, and a run.
Nathaniel Brenzer-Mendoza got his first start of the season. He struck out eight batters in three-and-a- third innings, and gave up two walks and three earned runs. Colton Bridges, a right-handed pitcher from Emmanuel College, made his Sabre Dogs debut and came in relief for one-and-two-thirds innings with three strikeouts, no walks, three hits, and two earned runs. Jace Mapston was able to get out of jams in
the eighth and ninth innings to end the game. He finished with two innings with one strikeout, one walk, six hits, and two earned runs.
The Sabre Dogs are now tied for first place in the Lewis Division with the Pierre Trappers at 4-0. First pitch of the series finale on Tuesday night will be at 7:05 p.m.
