The MARC: The Minot Voice Says ‘Yes’

Six weeks from today, you’ll have the opportunity cast your vote on the MARC — The Minot Aquatics & Recreation Center. The typical modus operandi for a news organization is to cover the details of the story up to the election, and then a few days prior publish an editorial expressing an opinion on the issue.

The Minot Voice is going to flip that model. We’re laying out our support for the MARC right now. The Minot Voice is for it.  We think it’s good for Minot, we think it’s a true community concept, and we’re going to make an editorial case for supporting it. So there it is — you have our bias laid out in front of you.

That said, between now and April 21st, we’ll be on a mission to turn you  into a ridiculously well-informed voter. Our hope is to help you make your decision based on the best information available. We’ll be looking into Minot’s sales and property taxes, how they came to be, and how we’re spending them. We’ll show you around the state to look at similar facilities, how they were built, and how they’re operated. But it won’t be pure cheerleading, between now and election day you’ll read some carefully crafted criticism of Minot’s past tax policies and a few ideas about how we can do better.

And to help you out, we’ll be gathering all the MARC information on one page. Check it out now, and look in a few more times in the coming weeks.
