Have you ever felt like the world’s official economic reports just don’t match what you feel in your gut? You’re not alone. Kyla Scanlon dives into the “Vibecession”—the feeling that everything is going wrong, even when some data suggests otherwise. It argues that this deep malaise is born from a compound crisis: genuine economic strain, like rising costs for essentials, colliding with a cognitive overload from the digital world. The result is a profound loss of trust in our institutions and in each other, leaving us in an uncomfortable, uncertain, spot. It’s a long read, but perfect for Sunday if you want a full sense of what’s going on in an economy driven by people and the way their feeling.
A long-running dispute over grazing rights in north-central Montana has landed on the desk of the U.S. interior secretary. Doug Burgum has stepped in to take direct control of three appeals involving American Prairie’s bison grazing on federal land, cases that have been winding through the Bureau of Land Management for more than three years. The move follows pressure from Montana’s top elected officials and comes amid ongoing debate over conservation grazing, agricultural use, and how public lands should be managed. Jordan Hansen with Daily Montanan has the full story.
It’s one thing to hear political rhetoric from the sidelines, but what happens when comments from the very top strike at your sense of belonging? Hamida Dakane, a former state lawmaker of Somali heritage, shares her deeply personal reaction to President Trump’s recent insults against her community in this episode of Plain Talk. This conversation goes beyond politics to reveal the real emotional toll, especially on children, when their home is suddenly called into question. Yet, as Dakane tells it, her community is choosing vision over victimhood. Read the recap article from Rob Port and Inforum, and watch the full conversation below.
Cold temperatures didn’t keep volunteers away from Rosehill Memorial Cemetery this weekend. Dozens gathered in Minot to place wreaths on veterans’ graves, carrying on a tradition meant to honor service and keep those stories alive for the next generation. Organized by the Civil Air Patrol’s Magic City Composite Squadron, the effort drew help from veterans, active-duty service members, and community groups. Even in the cold, organizers say the turnout reflects a shared commitment to remembrance—and hopes to grow the event even more next year.
We often hear politicians loudly championing “state’s rights” and railing against “federal overreach”—especially when the White House is held by the opposing party. But what happens when the political tables turn? Columnist Jim Shaw pulls back the curtain on a group of prominent North Dakota and Minnesota Republicans who were once highly critical of executive power. Their previous statements condemning a “dictator” and “unhinged” federal overreach now stand in sharp contrast to their silence on far more sweeping actions from a President they support. Read it at Inforum.

On What Called Him Virtuously Up
“I walk on untrodden ground. There is scarcely any action, whose motives may not be subject to a double interpretation. There is scarcely any part of my conduct wch may not hereafter be drawn into precedent. Under such a view of the duties inherent to my arduous office, I could not but feel a diffidence in myself on the one hand; and an anxiety for the Community that every new arrangement should be made in the best possible manner on the other. If after all my humble but faithful endeavours to advance the felicity of my Country & Mankind; I may endulge a hope that my labours have not been altogether without success, it will be the only real compensation I can receive in the closing Scenes of life.”
— George Washington, — Letter to Catherine Macaulay Graham, January 9, 1790.
