A bill proposing a defense highway in the United States to serve as a link connecting the Inter-American highway with the Alaska highway, one branch of which would begin “at a point near Minot” has been re-introduced in congress. Attorney Halvor L. Halvorson, Minot, past president of the United States-Canada-Alaska Prairie Highway association reported recently.

Why We Chose It
While both Highway 83 and Highway 2 remain significant connecting roads, the later investment into the interstate highway system would find routes that missed Minot. But perhaps this acknowledgment of our strategic location was a precursor to a later national defense investment.
