Roosevelt Park Zoo to Unveil New Giraffe Habitat on World Giraffe Day

Roosevelt Park Zoo will mark World Giraffe Day on Saturday, June 21, with the grand opening of its new African Plains Building — a year-round indoor habitat for the zoo’s giraffes.

The 7,300-square-foot facility features natural flooring, expanded space for animal enrichment, and a close-up giraffe feeding station. Giraffe feedings are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., depending on animal participation.

The new exhibit not only enhances visitor experience but also supports global conservation. Proceeds from feedings will benefit SAVE Giraffes Now, an initiative helping bring clean water to wildlife and communities in Kenya’s Swara Plains.

The zoo will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the event.
