North Dakota’s mosquito season is hitting harder — and earlier — than usual, and with it comes a surge in West Nile virus cases. Fourteen people across nine counties have already tested positive, triple-digit mosquito counts are showing up in some traps, and health officials warn the numbers could surpass last year’s total. Wet weather has created ideal breeding conditions, prompting extra spraying in places like Fargo and Minot. Experts urge residents to take precautions now, before late summer’s mosquito peak arrives.
