Across the country, the hotel room is getting a second life — as an apartment. A record number of buildings are being converted into housing, but this year, it’s hotels, not offices, leading the way. The reasons are both practical and economic: hotels already have the plumbing and layout for small residential units, and many are struggling to stay profitable in a post-pandemic travel landscape.
