Why are marriage rates falling — and what role does education play? A new study from Iowa State University suggests the answer depends on when you ask. Researchers found that more schooling often delays marriage for people in their 20s and early 30s, but by middle age, education has little effect on whether someone marries. In fact, higher education can lower divorce rates. The findings ease fears that rising education is driving marriage into decline, but leave open a bigger question: if not school, then what is?
