51-year old Emil Simonson, rural Berthold farmer, was sentenced by District Judge Eugene A. Burdick to a term of three to five years in the State Penitentiary on a charge of negligent homicide, in connection with a traffic accident in which the founder of the Non-Partisan League, A. C. Townley was killed.

Though he attempted to stay in the game his entire life, the influential period of A.C. Townley's political career was relatively brief. But it left a lasting mark on North Dakota and includes the Bank of North Dakota and the ND State Mill and Elevator.
