On This Day | Back to School Requires Good Bus Behavior

Many of these youngsters will be riding school buses for the first time this year. Many others have let safety rules slip their minds. And some just don’t realize that their behavior as passengers has much to do with their safety and others’.

Why We Chose It
A good reminder for parents: teach your kids good bus etiquette… we want those drivers focused on driving, not supervising 😉
Editor’s Note: We prepare these “On This Day” columns well in advance of their publication date, and sometimes a story pops up in the interim that makes them all the more relevant, i.e., a shameful and irresponsible act by a local bus driver. It’s safe to assume this week’s news about a Minot bus driver is is an extraordinary and disturbing exception, but it would be a mistake to let the moment pass without using it to teach our kids. And this message from the past is still one worth pushing. We can add to it, too… in that we should encourage our kids to have the courage to speak out if their driver is acting or driving erratically. And we can train our drivers to hear those concerns of their passengers on top of it. Kudos to the security forces at Minot Air Force Base for catching this dangerous moment before it became a tragic one.
