Why We Chose It

This is the first example (we’ve noticed) of the State Mill and elevator pushing advertising into the local newspapers. Today, the State Mill and Elevator is a quietly celebrated contributor to the state’s bottom line and value-added agriculture in the state. But it’s also worth noting that in this era, there were at least a couple private mills operating in Minot. Today there are none. While the answer is harder to discover and more complicated that politics would assume, it’s worth wondering what impact state-owned competition had on what is now a non-existent local industry.
