On This Day | Beer Cans Make Waste

This points up the beer can problem. Up to several years ago beer was sold package-style in bottles and the bottles were worth cash if you returned them to the beer parlor. Now beer is sold in cans, and the cans are worth nothing. As a consequence, where it used to be that 90 per cent of the beer containers were kept by the drinkers and returned to the sellers, now 100 per cent of the containers are discarded.
