LaFrantz had climbed the pole to save the cat which was in contact with one of the wires and as he seized the animal a metal hook on one of his legs that was used in climbing came in contact with a ground wire and the current passed through his body. Both man and cat dropped 35 feet to the ground. Several persons witnessed the accident.
