The Councilmen of Minot decided Monday evening, that Minot should have a $10,00 city hall and firemen’s headquarters together with a jail, and that bids for the same should be placed in the official paper at once.

Why We Chose It

If you wanted to keep up on business opportunities from the City of Minot, you had but two choices. Attend meetings, or subscribe to the “official” city newspaper. Today, business owners no longer need to take in the local news in order to stay up to date on business opportunities. These are collected from websites by specialized publishing services and delivered directly to contractors. It’s small but subtle shift that’s been happening for a very long time. It’s a model that balances the scales equally between the outside and local contractor, and presumably, leads to lower prices for services, but it also leads to exporting-out of local dollars that would have otherwise stayed with a local contractor.

We are still wrestling with these ideas . . . as recently as last Monday night at City Council. At the most recent meeting, discussion over a local contractor preference was taken up.
