On This Day | Rush Delivery to Garrison

The Garrison fire department did not have sufficient hose to reach to the mine which is located along the main line of the Soo at the outskirts of the city, so a telephone call was sent to the Minot fire department. Fireman J. E. McCutcheon was sent hurriedly to Garrison with 600 feet of hose. He was carried there by Mr. Hayes of the 56 Taxi line and in just an hour and thirty minutes from the time they left Minot, the 54-mile trip to Garrison had been made and the hose was connected, 14 connections being made. The Garrison folks give credit to the Minot fire department for saving the mine, for when the water was finally thrown on, the flames had just started to eat their way into the shaft.
