Then finally there is the lesson of humility and its twofold aspect. The first portion deals with our heritage. We are able to make safer and more successful journeys through life because the travelers of the past left caches of knowledge along the way, caches without which many would have perished. The second side of humility is an awareness of the necessary inter-dependence between the professional and non-professional fields. The doctor with his scalpel and the plumber with his wrench all help to make a community stay alive.
