The garden is located along the bank of the Mouse river and it was irrigated. Berries need much water, Mr. Lowe states. In the early winter, after the ground is frozen, the berry plants are covered with four inches of straw. This prevents thawing and freezing which frequently kills the plants, and it also holds back their growth until early in May.
