Why We Chose It
It seems so foolish to argue about the role of government today when it was so eloquently defined 122 years ago. Also, “but these acts are always incident to order and in accordance with the consensus of opinion and development of character of the people in that community or country where they are enacted; and just as fast as this consensus of opinion changes the laws are modified.”
It seems the thing we need to concern ourselves most with is the “character of the people.” And if you’re not sure who that is, it’s us.
