On This Day | These Kids Were Going Places!

To the Honorable Members of the Rotary Club, Town Criers Club and Association of Commerce:
The winter season is now close at hand and as in former seasons no definite plans have been made for public skating. Because of your gentlemen’s interest in public affairs, we, the Social Problems Class, of Minot High school, petition your support in advising the city of the benefits of conveniently located and properly cared for ice-skating rinks. This has been done in other cities with good results and you surely realize that Minot is in need of more outdoor activities.— October 30, 1919 | The Ward County Independent
Why We Chose It
Though we don’t know how this advisement was taken, skating rinks did eventually come to be. Perhaps more remarkable was the intentional involvement of the high school students in the direction of the city. Or maybe it was just the high school kids pushing their way into the conversation. Either or both ways, kudos.
