On This Day | Time to Pay Prosperity Forward

After 10 years of prosperity unparalleled in North Dakota’s history, it is time for us, the people of the community of North Dakota, to band together a part of our wealth to make some capital improvements in the condition of our state parks and recreational facilities.

Why We Chose It
Keep in mind, this was only an editorial, but it was an early call to a more progressive position on outdoor recreation and quality of life issues. The action on wider investment in state parks did not materialize until the middle 1960s when federal dollars from the Land and Water Conservation Fund became available and the state responded to access them. What followed was regular creation of new state parks in the 1960s and 1970s. Investment in outdoor and public spaces remains a ripe opportunity to pay our success forward to future generations.
