Regina opts to start buying hybrid city transit buses instead of electric to save money
Regina city council has chosen a middle road in its push toward greener transit. By a 7-4 vote, councillors approved purchasing hybrid diesel-electric buses instead of reverting to traditional diesel models. The decision balances cost concerns with the city’s climate goals, since transit accounts for nearly half of Regina’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. While hybrids aren’t as clean as fully electric buses, they offer significant fuel savings and lower emissions. Council also directed staff to explore refurbishing older buses, stretching resources while advancing sustainability. Larissa Kurz with Regina Leader Post has the full story.
