Western North Dakota monk provides monastery and public with ‘our daily bread’
In the quiet hours before dawn, Brother Alban Petesch is already at work in the kitchen of Assumption Abbey. For 35 years, he has risen early to bake bread for his fellow Benedictine monks and the many visitors who pass through the monastery in Richardton. His loaves—whether challah, potato-onion rolls, or simple white bread—are more than food; they’re an act of service, shaped by humility and faith.
