Council Rejects City Manager’s Interim Chief Recommendation; Votes to Retain Current Interim Chief Dale Plessas

Minot City leaders have decided to keep Capt. Dale Plessas as interim Chief of Police while they search for a permanent replacement. During Monday’s council meeting, an alternative proposal from City Manager Harold Stewart’s recommendation was adopted, opting to retain Plessas instead of bringing in retired West Fargo Police Chief Denis Otterness. The council’s decision was split, with a 5-2 vote against the proposed alternative. This follows last month’s mutual separation from former Chief John Klug, who had been on administrative leave since September.

Supporting the motion were Council Members: Olson, Pitner, Blessum, Fuller, Samuelson.

Opposing the motion were: Council Members: Jantzer, Mayor Ross

Klug’s separation agreement was also approved at the meeting in an earlier agenda item. Watch the Council’s discussion of the interim Police Chief appointment below including lengthy comments from the City Manager on the action divergent of his recommendation.
