Minot City Council Deadlocks on Proposal to Reallocate Half-Cent Sales Tax to Public Safety
A split vote halted a push to redirect part of Minot’s existing sales tax toward public safety, as City Council members deadlocked 3–3 on the proposal. The plan would have shifted funds away from economic development, sparking concern from several council members who argued the public hadn’t had enough say. With the motion stalled, attention now turns to a new idea: putting a fresh half-cent sales tax for public safety before voters—with a five-year sunset clause.
