Minot City Manager Harold Stewart is one of five finalists being considered for the soon-to-be-vacant city manager position in Lakewood, Washington. The Pierce County community, located just south of Tacoma, announced its list of candidates this week following a national search to replace retiring City Manager John Caulfield.
Stewart, who has served as Minot’s city manager since late 2020, confirmed his candidacy in an email sent to members of the Minot City Council. In the message, Stewart cited recent challenges and a period of self-reflection as reasons for exploring his professional future.
“I want to make sure I am the right person to continue to serve as the city manager of Minot now and in the future,” Stewart wrote. “In order to assist me with coming to that answer, I need to evaluate other options/alternatives…”
Stewart emphasized his continued commitment to Minot and expressed that pursuing other opportunities should not be seen as a lack of dedication. He also noted that he may be considered for other positions and has committed to informing city officials if additional candidacies become public.
The City of Lakewood will host a public reception for finalists on June 10, with interviews scheduled the following day. Stewart stated that remaining in Minot remains a “very strong possibility,” depending on the outcome of this evaluative process.
