‘Paradigm shift’ — Denmark to buy its first long-range arms to counter Russian threat
Denmark is making a historic shift in its defense posture, moving to acquire long-range precision weapons as part of NATO’s call for greater European readiness. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized the move is defensive, not offensive, but acknowledged Russia will remain a long-term threat to European security. The step comes amid record defense investments, including new air defense systems, and reflects growing pressure on NATO members to strengthen their own capabilities as Russia’s war in Ukraine continues to unsettle the region.
