On this day in 1877, the first Groundhog Day was celebrated in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, with the emergence of Punxsutawney Phil, the famous groundhog who predicts the weather. The tradition has since become a beloved annual event, drawing thousands of visitors to the small town.
