Utah signs MOU to explore building nuclear reactor with new technology
Utah is positioning itself at the forefront of America’s nuclear revival. Gov. Spencer Cox announced a new agreement with TerraPower, the Bill Gates–founded company developing next-generation reactors, to explore a site for a Natrium reactor and energy storage plant in the state. The deal is non-binding but signals serious interest, with preliminary site recommendations expected by year’s end. Cox says the project supports his “Operation Gigawatt” plan to double Utah’s energy capacity, blending nuclear with other sources to keep power affordable, reliable, and clean.
