Burlington monitoring underground fires
Fire crews near Burlington, North Dakota, are keeping a close watch on a rare and potentially dangerous situation. The Burlington Rural Fire Department reported signs of coal vein fires smoldering underground in the same area affected by Easter weekend fires. In a video shared with local news, smoke can be seen pushing up through the soil. So far, no surface fires have ignited, but shifting winds have spread smoke and embers, prompting continued caution and monitoring.
