Volt Lithium Corp. announced it will commission a mobile Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) unit in North Dakota’s Bakken region later this month. The project—developed in partnership with Wellspring Hydro and backed by $2.5 million in state funding—marks the first DLE effort supported by North Dakota.
The proprietary technology, designed to extract lithium from oilfield brine, is a modular system that builds on Volt’s success in the Permian Basin. The Bakken’s higher lithium concentrations could yield up to 50,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent annually. State leaders and industry stakeholders are expected to visit the site during commissioning to observe the system’s scalability and economic potential.
Volt’s expansion positions the company as a growing force in North America’s critical mineral supply chain. Pending shareholder approval, Volt will rebrand as LibertyStream Infrastructure Partners Inc. to reflect its evolving infrastructure strategy. The full news release can be viewed here.
