Tuesday morning at 8:15 we were off in a car again. The zigzag, steep mountain highway up to Stalheim has just been opened to automobile travel. Up to this the tourists desiring to make this trip had to go horse and buggy (with one of those active little sorrel Norwegian fjord horses). This highway is called Stalheimskeiven in Norse. The hotel at the top is Stalheim. Steady mountain profusion everywhere; you cannot stop at this place, as many tourists do, without being awed on toward Voss. Near the white church I mentioned was the place where Ivar Elling Eielson was born. The people who lived in the home I had hoped to speak, was not at home, so I hailed a passing milk truck and hired a ride into Voss.
