Students ‘think like a prairie’ with hands-on art experience
A group of high school students in Grafton recently traded textbooks for prairie grass, turning soil, seeds, and stems into paints, paper, and clay plates. The project, called Thinking Like a Prairie, blends art with ecology, helping students see the land not just as scenery but as a living teacher. Guided by artist Austen Camille and supported by the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust, the effort shows how slowing down and making something by hand can spark deeper care for one of the world’s most threatened ecosystems.
