Ward County continuing patrols in Kenmare while town goes without local police
When Kenmare’s police chief resigned last month, the small town suddenly found itself without a local force — a daunting prospect for any community. But Ward County deputies have stepped in, much as they have before. Sheriff Bob Roed says his team routinely patrols the entire county, including Kenmare, and will shoulder the extra calls that would normally fall to city police. While they can’t enforce local ordinances, they’re handling state law enforcement as usual, keeping a steady presence until the town charts its next steps.
