The Oakes cheese plant is the third in a series of cheese plants within North Dakota to announce new operations within the past year which were aided by the North Dakota Economic Development Commission. The other plants are at Strasburg and Towner.

Why We Chose It
The value-added dairy industry in North Dakota is not what it once was and neither is the number of dairy farms. We would do well to understand what happened so that if there's an effort to rekindle this once strong industry, we're able to fend off the decisions we got wrong and create conditions for prosperity and growth.
