It takes a village to keep a local news source
When small-town newspapers teetered on the edge of closing in Ashley, Wishek, and Mohall, it wasn’t a media company or billionaire that stepped in—it was the communities themselves. These papers aren’t just carriers of news—they’re timekeepers, watchdogs, and storytellers. Their survival is a reminder: local journalism endures when people care enough to fight for it. Cecile Wehrman, ND Newspaper Association wrote the commentary published in InForum.
