Some ideas just don’t age well — and Nebraska is being asked to revisit two of them. A new petition drive aims to hand-count every ballot and scrap the state’s split electoral vote system in favor of a winner-take-all approach. Critics say both proposals would make elections slower, costlier, and less accurate, all to solve problems that don’t exist. Nebraska’s long record of fair elections, they argue, shouldn’t be jeopardized by nostalgia or partisan tinkering dressed up as reform. George Ayoub with Nebraska Examiner has the commentary that’s a warning to watch for in North Dakota.
