On This Day | Asking For a Special Assessment!

For the first time in five years Monday evening the Minot city council took steps to create a new special assessment district for paving and it did so at the petition of several property owners within the districts. The petition asked the council to have the existing paving blocks replaced with a new surface construction on the existing concrete base.

Why We Chose It

This is so radically different than how we operate today, and based on the anger over taxes some are carrying, we may need to reconsider the old ways. Today, we build and assess on the front-end. But in the old days, the roads got so bad that folks came begging for improvements. Instead of giving people the carrot and assuming they’ll be grateful, maybe we let folks feel the stick a little more often?
