He would favor introducing Chinese Pheasants and quail into this state and would provide game preserves. The warden went to Williston to study the deer situation, and will have some recommendations for the preservation of that game after he has looked over the field. He believes that with the clearing out of the brush along the river, the deer will disappear over into Montana and says that it will be but a short time until there will be no deer whatever in North Dakota.

Why We Chose It
Warden W.N. Smith had a pretty good feel for this moment in wildlife management. A few years later the pheasants were introduced. He was right about the deer, too. Hunting them was officially closed in 1915, and remained that way until 1921. The population remained shaky until the 1940s.
