In condemning landowned by private owners so that the federal government can buy it for the Garrison dam site, the government paid E. A. Bohrer $6,300, Herbert Bohrer $16,500, Helmuth Bohrer $22,775, Eldor Bohrer $27,980, Dorothea Bohrer $7,420 and H. F. Mohl $18,535 for a total of 27.775 acres. The total cash was set by the federal jury in Bismarck and was some $21,000 higher than the army wanted to pay but considerably less than the farmers wanted. The farmers appealed the army appraisal to district court.
