Oslo, Norway . . . I have witnessed a Victory parade on Karl Johan Gate. Troops of the Allied forces in Norway paraded on a street bedecked with the flags of all Allied Nations. The troops proceeded to the Royal Palace where they were reviewed by King Haakon of Norway. The huge crowds on hand cheered the soldiers with rousing appreciation for their mighty contributions to the cause of peace.

Why We Chose It

From later in the article… “… they are thankful that an invasion and military campaign of Normandy did not have to be conducted before final freedom was attained. The large numbers of German troops in Norway and the excellent defensive terrain would have mad this a long and costly campaign.”
