In Iceland, summer isn’t a season—it’s a state of mind. After months spent surviving wind, darkness, and winter’s long grip, Icelanders don’t ease into summer; they chase it like it might disappear at any moment. This vivid piece from The Reykjavík Grapevine captures that urgency and joy, framing it around what might be the nation’s true summer ritual: the soundtrack. From road trip anthems to festival ballads, the music of Icelandic summer becomes memory, escape, and celebration all at once. Here’s what it sounds like to come alive. Ish Sveinsson Houle with Reykjavik Grapevine has the full story.

A growing coalition of Midwestern and Western lawmakers is calling for the end of a federal tax break that’s become a lifeline for carbon pipeline projects like Summit Carbon Solutions. At issue: the 45Q tax credit, designed to reward companies for capturing and storing carbon—but critics say it’s just a subsidy for polluters. With over $1 billion potentially at stake for Summit, the repeal effort signals a deeper debate: are we funding climate solutions, or padding profits under the guise of progress? Joshua Haiar with South Dakota Searchlight has the full story.

Wyoming is facing a crossroads: too many of its young people—and working-age adults—are leaving, and the jobs to keep them there simply aren’t keeping up. State leaders say it’s not just about attracting business anymore; it’s about building places people want to live. That means rethinking infrastructure, updating outdated policies, and maybe even reforming Wyoming’s tax system. The question now isn’t whether the economy will shift—it’s whether communities are ready to meet the challenge before the next generation calls somewhere else home.

Garrison Dam is often hailed as a symbol of American ingenuity—an engineering feat that tamed the Missouri River and created Lake Sakakawea. But that story isn’t complete without the one beneath the waterline: the forced displacement of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. As the federal government prepares a $1.8 billion repair, some ask whether new signs under Secretary Doug Burgum’s directive will allow space for that truth—or only for tales that flatter. Can a nation celebrate its greatness while acknowledging the cost? Mike McFeely with InForum has the commentary

When cities are designed around cars, people become afterthoughts. Dr. Patricia Tice wants to flip that script. In this episode of The Bottom-Up Revolution, she brings nearly 30 years of experience in transportation engineering to a simple but powerful idea: human connection should shape how we build our communities. From dopamine to driveways, she explains how our streets can foster empathy, attention, and real social life—if we design them to. This isn’t just about roads. It’s about how we live together. Join Tiffany Owens Reed with Strong Towns for a full conversation with Dr. Tice.

More than three thousand Canadian visitors are expected for Minot's first annual Canadian Day celebration, opening June 28th for four days.

Why we published it: This is the first time seeing this event in Minot's history archives so it will be interesting to see how long it persisted. Given the recent rhetoric from Washington that's -- by anecdote and evidence -- soured many Canadians on American visits, perhaps it's time to revise this idea in some form.

Minot City Council voted to return to Central Standard Time, effective Labor Day, Sept. 2, at a special meeting held Monday night.

Why we published it: It's a miracle anyone ever got to anything on time... thank goodness this decision was taken from local officials and Daylight Savings Dates standardized. Not all local control is a good idea.
