A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this week in Minot, North Dakota.

According to the Minot Police Department, officers responded to a report of an unconscious male in a parking lot in northeast Minot at 12:51 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13. Upon arrival, first responders discovered 19-year-old Dorian K. Thomas of Minot with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following an investigation, detectives determined that Thomas had been shot and killed as a result of actions by another 19-year-old, Johnathan L. Decoteau, also of Minot. On Friday afternoon, police obtained an arrest warrant and took Decoteau into custody without incident.

Decoteau has been charged with Manslaughter (Class B Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class C Felony), and Falsifying Information to Law Enforcement (A Misdemeanor). He was transported to the Ward County Jail.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
