FBI report: U.S. crime rates fell nationwide in 2024

New FBI data shows violent crime fell 4.5% in 2024, with homicides dropping nearly 15% — the steepest decline among major offenses. Property crimes also saw broad decreases, including a sharp 18.6% drop in motor vehicle theft.
