Listen: Art meets ecology as students explore the prairie through creative expression
High school students in northeast North Dakota are learning to see the prairie with fresh eyes. Through the “Thinking Like a Prairie” project, they spent time outdoors gathering soil, grasses, and other natural materials, then turned them into art with the guidance of artist Austin Camille. Backed by the North Dakota Natural Resources Trust, the program blends ecology, creativity, and community, giving students a deeper connection to landscapes often overlooked at highway speed — and sparking conversations about how to preserve them.
