Minot police recovered a stolen vehicle and a firearm following a brief pursuit in the early morning hours of May 4.
At approximately 1:27 a.m., officers located a gray 2010 GMC Sierra in the 100 block of 1st Avenue SW. The vehicle matched the description of a truck reported stolen in northwest Minot on March 18. The license plates on the vehicle were registered to a different vehicle.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled through alleyways and side streets in downtown Minot near the Artspace Lofts. The pursuit lasted about five blocks and ended when the suspect vehicle collided with a parked, unoccupied 2022 Chevrolet Malibu in the 10 block of 1st Street SE.
The driver and passenger fled on foot. After two brief foot pursuits, both individuals were apprehended by police. The recovered pickup was confirmed to be the vehicle stolen in March. During the investigation, officers also located a stolen handgun reported missing after an auto burglary on March 4 in southeast Minot.
The driver, identified as Shane Camden Windham, 18, of Minot, faces multiple charges including driving under suspension, driving with cancelled or altered license plates, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.
The passenger, Ashton Martin Nelson, 19, of Minot, was charged with refusal to halt, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Both individuals were transported to the Ward County Jail and remain in custody pending their initial court appearances. No injuries were reported in the incident.
