North Dakota investment board delays action on $1.3 million in employee bonuses
North Dakota’s State Investment Board hit pause Friday on a proposal to award more than $1.3 million in bonuses to staff who helped the state’s top funds beat their benchmarks by a wide margin. The payouts would be the first since lawmakers authorized a new compensation plan last year, and supporters argue they’re modest compared to the $191 million in added earnings. Still, board members raised legal and fairness concerns, especially as some bonuses would reach nearly an employee’s full salary. The debate now continues, with high stakes for both staff and policy.
